An Introduction to Construction Skills Certification Scheme with ESOL

Do you want to work in construction environment? Then you first need the CSCS card and we can help you get it. Our CSCS & Employability course is designed for individuals wishing to qualify for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme green card to access construction sites as a non-skilled worker. Undertaking this 10 weeks course 1 day per week and its assessment will give the you an opportunity to develop or extend knowledge and understanding of the health and safety requirements of the construction industry, applying for job in the construction sector. The course also cater for those whose English is their second language. At the end of training the you will be assessed using a multiple-choice question paper with clear performance levels listed for each outcome. On successful completion of this course, the mock test and CITB test, the you will achieve a Certificate award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment, demonstrating knowledge in this area.

Course aim

The CSCS and Employability course will provide you the Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety in Construction environment, as well as assist you to pass your CITB test, once you pass the test, you will be able to apply for your CSCS Card.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To list risks to health within a construction environment
  • To explain the importance of working around plant and equipment safely
  • To identify the importance of safe manual handling in the workplace
  • Improved Personal Confidence and Self awareness
  • Developed group and team communication skills

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
  • Undertake Mock CITB Test with your Tutor

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Bring a note pad

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2018
