A 10week course to developing confidence, language and skills to run creative and cultural workshops for social change. As part of FESTIVAL31: 2019 learn key skills to plan and run workshops in the community and eplxore your skills through delivering 1-2 workshops with other learners and course tutor. Using creativity and culturally based ideas and activities to developing leadership, planning, monitoring and evaluation methods. Epxlore ideas and methods to help people to think and reflect, develop skills and make social change happen.

Course aim

A 10week course a course developing confidence and skills to run workshop for social change. Using creativity and culturally based ideas and activities to developing leadership, planning and evaluation methods.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Although learners can have a lower level of English, there is a need to have basic ability to understand and communiate in English at Entry Level2 or above.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Develop employability skills for workshop faiclitation.
  • UNderstand how the arts and cultural activity can be useful in making social change happen.
  • Develop understanding in Health & Safety.
  • Develop understanding in Safeguarding.
  • Develop confidence in working with people.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • You will be required to deliver 1 - 2 workshops in the community with support to apply your learning.

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Please bring paper, pens and A4 ringbinder folder to keep your learning file.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
