This is suitable for people of all abilities with a willingness to try different techniques and media to observe and capture aspects of the landscape. This may include some still life topics, You can also develop your own ideas.

Course aim

To look at aspects of landscape,man made or natural and use various art materials to capture this.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This is suitable for those who are interested in trying new ideas in art.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a better understanding of colour and tone.
  • Recognise better light, shade, atmosphere, perspective and proportion.
  • Identify how engagement in an arts course improves my health and well-being.
  • Use art materials more confidently.
  • Consider other peoples art work and compare results.

How will I be taught?

  • Prepared work sheets showing how to do things in stages will be used.Also there will be a demonstration at the start of most lessons for each topic. This will be backed up by individual tuition during the lesson.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Although starting points and some materials will be provided you will provide your own and advised on what you need to bring the week before.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • You will be encouraged to look at art work in books and galleries for example to help you draw inspiration.
