Preparation for Life in the UK - Part 1

Come along and start your journey to passing the Life in the UK Test. This part 1 course will enable you to understand what the LIfe in the UK Test is like and to learn about and practise some of the topics, in a safe, friendly and fun environment. Students who have already started learning on their own, may also find the course helpful.

Course aim

This introductory, Part 1 course will help students work towards passing the Life in the UK Test. The course will cover some, but not all of the required subject areas and will include supported practise.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • The course is suitable for students who want to work towards taking the Life in the UK Test and need support. Students should be able to read and understand English at entry level 3.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Read understand and answer questions about some key figures in British history
  • Read understand and answer questions about the geography of the UK
  • Read understand and answer questions about key figures in British culture and art

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • A number of handouts and worksheets will be provided so students may find it useful to have a ring binder or folder to keep their work. Students will need to bring paper/notebook and pen.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Students may continue independent learning and/or be able to progress to the part 2 course or a similar course with another provider.
