This course will enable the learner to learn basic art techniques and experiment with colour to express issues related to the self image/imagery in today's society.
Course aim
Students will learn basic art techniques and use colour , pastel and acrylic, effectively to express issues related to portraiture in today's society
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
- No skills or experience necessary but an interest and enthusiasm for art a must!
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Have completed a tonal range in warm and cool colours to express an issue.
- Completed a portrait/ image in tone(charcoal,pencil) to express an issue
- Completed a portrait/image in colour (pastel, acrylic paint, watercolour pencil) to express an issue
- Selected an artwork from a gallery or book and discuss with the group
- Demonstrated increased confidence and well being
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
- You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
- Q and A. 1:1. Quiz at the end of term. Students will be asked to complete homework to re enforce exercises completed in class. This is discussed with the group at the start of each lesson.
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
- Tracking is carried out on each student to assess progress. Mid and end of term review of attainment of learner outcomes. Learning is assessed by Q and A and students are given homework each week which is discussed and assessed at the start of each lesson.
What else do I need to know?
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
- Although there are some materials provided students may want to bring sketchbooks, canvas, pencils and paints.
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
- Students may want to research different techniques used in portraiture
