Community Health Matters

A short 8 week course that will be delivered through a variety of role play and improvisation exercises based around personal experiences of accessing community health services. This will result in a short playlet based around actual experiences. We will also discuss how accessing community health services could be improved.

Course aim

The course is aimed at community members who want to change their community for the better and make a real difference. They will look at various services and support, and complete a personal project on a health topic of interest to them.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is suitable for Adults with Learning Difficulties/Disabilities

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • 1. List a range of services and support available within a community
  • 2. Describe the changes that could be made to improve a community
  • 3. Complete and present a brief play-let on a health topic of personal interest
  • 4. Share ideas on new community groups which could benefit the local population

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
