Students will develop the skills to write a range of texts for different purposes, such as stories and letters. They will learn some formats for these texts and explore some of the grammar which is correct for these applications. They will also learn to review and correct their own and others' work. They will expand their vocabulary and improve their spelling.

Course aim

To help students write confidently and correctly for a range of purposes

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for ESOL students who have completed an E3 reading course.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of sentence structure and punctuation.
  • Produce legible text which can be easily read.
  • Identify and use the stages used in producing written texts (plan, write, check).
  • Produce a piece of text on a subject agreed in class.
  • Identify and correct mistakes made when writing.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • The tutor will provide information and support during classroom sessions.

What else do I need to know?

  • Students must bring pens and paper to every session.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Following this course the students will progress to an E3 writing course.
