Drawing and Painting / Mixed Media Art for Beginners and Improvers

The theme for this course will be Landscape.This will include skies & clouds,seascape,woodland,hills,rivers & lakes.Learn how to draw trees( Winter & summer versions.),Rocks & walls.Draw from observation examples of branches ,rocks.grasses etc.We will look at Perspective,both linear & tonal.& colou,r. versions.We can use watercolour,coloured pencils,or fiber tipped pens.crayon or pastel.There could be scope for larger work on canvas or board using acrylics or oils.for the more advanced learner.

Course aim

On this course we learn sound Drawing & Paintingskills in a variety of chosen media leading to the development of greater visual awareness & creativity .This could lead to a worthwhile & satisfying hobby or pastime which can be very therapeutic .

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English
  • We have a group. of beginners who will do a more structured basic skills course. .

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Draw with increased confidence & skill various areas of landscape & its detail.
  • Develop personal ideas through media of choiceDiscover the therapeutic values of drawing & painting
  • Master some skills in linear,tonal,& colour Perspective
  • Demonstrate a greater understanding of proportion,& scale.
  • Develop a greater & more sensitive visual awareness through working from observation &. the characteristics of landscapes through photographic,& Tablet/I-phone devices.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • Do some Homework assignments from time to time.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • End of term exhibition to observe the variety of different approaches,skills,&creativity.& therefore learn from each other.

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • A3 size Sketchbook,Canvases if doing Oils or Acrylics,soft B pencils Some harder ones as well H.Graphite sticks ,Charcoal.Coloured pencils,& any of the usual armoury of Drawing /Painting.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • We have a small library of art books & pictorial reference book for the use of Learners.
