Women Artists of the 20th Century

This course will look at the work of 60 women artists working in the 20th century, looking in depth at their practice and the context in which they were working.

Course aim

To provide an overview of the work of a selection of women artists working in the 20th century.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify and discuss the work of many women artists working in the 20th century.
  • Recognise and describe the conditions and restrictions for women artists at this time.
  • Analyse some of the work made by women artists during this period, and appreciate what they achieved.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
