The course covers creating a PowerPoint presentation and planning and designing a Database. PowerPoint is a useful tool when giving a presentation, this can be something of interest or for a job interview. During the course we will develop a presentation by developing one on PowerPoint by creating, organising and developing slides that contain text and graphics. Databases are an excellent way of storing large quantities of information that can be sorted and searched very quickly such as names, addresses, telephone numbers or any other type of information that is useful to you. The course will involve how a Database works, plan and edit one and how to enter text and graphics.

Course aim

The course is to enhance the knowledge of those with a basic understanding of computer use by introducing them to PowerPoint and it's usage and understanding how a Database works.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Plan and create a PowerPoint presentation
  • Add text and graphics to a PowerPoint presentation
  • Understand the workings of a database
  • Plan a database
  • Edit and input information into a database

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
