This is a detailed look at British Art produced from the end of World War II until the mid-1970s, through visual presentation and discussion. We will also look at other aspects of British culture from this time, including design, photography, pop music, literature, and fashion.

Course aim

This course will present and discuss many aspects of British Art and Popular Culture from 1945 to 1975, including art produced in Britain in that period, as well as design, photography, pop music, fashion, and films.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Discuss the art and culture of Britain in this period.
  • Summarise the principal events and achievements in British culture of this time.
  • Analyse and discuss the chronological developments in British Art of the period.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
