Classical Music is an “inspired” Art Form and this inspiration has taken many forms over the centuries. Come and hear some truly visionary and magical true stories about composers and performers who have been touched by “another world” and brought this magic to us. Composers included are Sir Arnold Bax, John Ireland and Anton Bruckner. Performers include Harriet Cohen and John Lill.

Course aim

To inspire people with the “magic” of Classical Music.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • The course is for anybody with a love for and curiosity about Classical Music. No skills are needed.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Begin to understand the fundamental importance of inspiration to the composition of Classical Music.
  • Begin to question the origins of such inspiration.
  • Begin to understand the power of inspiration to change the direction within a human life.
  • Begin to understand that the magic of inspiration is all around us.

How will I be taught?

  • Presentation and discussion, with students encouraged to do research on their own outside of class time. Discussion of the results of such research in class time will be encouraged.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • There will be no assessment. Progress will be judged individually from discussion, which will gauge how far students have progressed in their understanding of the issues raised by the course.

What else do I need to know?

  • Bring a notebook, a pen, a listening ear and an open mind.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
