We will read aloud, analyse and discuss drama scripts with a common theme. topics of study will include genre, historical context and production and performance techniques.

Course aim

To provide scope for a group to develop understanding and skill in play reading activity with a view to further exploration of drama as both literature and a vehicle for confident performance.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand the plot and themes of the texts studied.
  • Make effective comparisons of texts.
  • Discuss texts in an informed and analytical way.
  • Read aloud with increased confidence.
  • Appreciate drama performance and production techniques in more depth.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • You may be asked to provide your own play texts.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
