Join our progressive group of Learner Artists,learning sound drawing & painting skills in a variety of madia such as pencils & coloured pencils.pastels,water-colours,pen & ink,acrylic or oil paint.We also study theory & drawing from observation.Subjects can range from Object & Still life,Portrait & Figure. Advanced & Improver students will be tutored on a one to one basis,working on their own personal projects.

Course aim

To learn sound Draw[ng & Painting skills in a variety of chosen media,leading to the development of a greater visual awareness & creativity,& to a worthwhile. satisfying hobby or pastime.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Any prior knowledge or some basic understanding of Art,maybe stemming from schooldays.Interest & enthusiasm would be essential whatever the level of skill!

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Draw & Paint with greater skill & confidence
  • Develop personal ideas through media of choice.
  • Master some skills in drawing Tonal,& Linear ,objects in light & light and shade both natural & man-made.
  • Demonstrate a greater understanding of proportion & scale.
  • Develop a greater & more sensitive visual awareness through working from observation 7 sometimes photographic skills.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • One to one tuition,as well as small group tuition.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • Constructive crits, when showing work in our end of term exhibitions.

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • We have a good Art library 7 photographic visual resource

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • Sgmetimes there are some good art programmes on BBC 4

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
