The Art Class (Congleton)

This is suitable for people of all abilities with a willingness to try different techniques and ideas in drawing and painting. You will use a variety of media for subjects ranging from landscape, still life, people and animals. You can also develop your own ideas.

Course aim

To look at and try different techniques in art in a variety of materials and subjects.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Indicate a better use of tone, colour and shade.
  • Demonstrate more confidence in working with a number of different drawing and painting materials.
  • Observe things more accurately when working from real life and pictures.
  • Indicate a better understanding of proportion and perspective where applicable.
  • Participate with others and compare results.

How will I be taught?

  • Teacher will use demonstrations, show examples and provide source materials if needed to suit each pupil. Individual help will be given during the lesson.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • You may pursue a topic of your own choice where the tutor will help you to achieve your aims.

What else do I need to know?

  • Although the tutor can provide some materials you will mostly provide your own. The tutor will provide starting points and some materials, subjects and pictures to work from.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • A future topic will be discussed with you before hand to give you time to prepare. References to artists and cultures will be made.
