Painting Inspired by Women Artists

To explore the life and work of women artists and create artwork inspired by them. Build / boost self-confidence. Raise awareness regarding the low percentage of women artists represented in the permanent collections of major art institutions. This is a hands on course during which we will explore a variety of painting techniques in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Course aim

Learn and develop skills in painting using a variety of media. Build / boost self confidence. Explore and research famous women artists and create own artwork inspired by the research.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Apply a variety of methods to create texture and depth in 2 and 3 dimensions
  • Use different media e.g. acrylics, watercolours, pastels, with confidence.
  • Create artwork inspired by women artists and recognize their work.
  • Develop, create and finish one original artwork.
  • Identify reasons why women's art has been dismissed and misrepresented throughout history

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • The tutor will advise what materials to get. If you have them you can bring: Sketchpad, 2B pencil and rubber, acrylic brushes, acrylic paints, acrylic paper

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2018
