Talk Shop on Renewing Democracy

Ref: C3841873

Is Britain suffering a crisis in its democracy? There has been a decline in levels of trust in government and confidence in the political system. These feelings of distrust have grown in the aftermath of the Brexit referendum and through the growing crises in the NHS and in housing and other public services. Many people feel that their vote doesn't really make a difference. In 2015 there were signs of a growing level of political inequality with the poorest in society less inclined to vote than the more wealthy and younger people (18-24) much less inclined to vote than those over 65. Then in 2017 young people came out in greater numbers, a so-called youthquake. What does this mean and what difference could it make? This course examines whether there is a continuing crisis in the democracy system and the way Britain is governed. We explore and discuss the options for change and a renewal of democracy through a game-like structure developed by Talk Shop.
