Come and take part in some fun writing exercises for 2 hours with critically-acclaimed novelist ANTHONY DUGDALE. The tutor will provide all materials and stimulus. All you need to bring along is your enthusiasm and your imagination!

Course aim

A taster for three WEA courses (beginners, improvers and improvers extra) run by this tutor (a critically acclaimed novelist) scheduled for September 2019 - July 2020, about writing prose fiction - novels, short stories, children’s fiction.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Write 3 pieces of different forms of prose
  • analyse and critique your writing in a perceptive, constructive and positive way.
  • analyse and critique others writing in a perceptive, constructive and positive way.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • The tutor will set exercises to stimulate prose writing. Students will be invited to share their writing with the group and offer constructive feedback to each other.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • The tutor will provide paper and pens for writing purposes. If students wish to use their own tablets or laptops that’s acceptable.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
