Learning how to network is an important skill that is learnable, and can help be used in all areas of life. As a volunteer you will learn essential networking tips and techniques for engaging with people. By developing your networking ability you will also be able to improve your confidence and self-esteem and feel more comfortable around people, even people you meet for the very first time. You will learn how to introduce yourself to a group in a friendly and respectful manner without having to say a word!

Course aim

Networking for Volunteers will provide learners with insights into the benefits of networking in today's technologically advanced world. You will learn why networking has remained an effective and influential tool.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Networking techniques
  • Importance of networking
  • How to introduce yourself within a group of networkers
  • How to network across the room without feeling embarrassed
  • How to keep people interested in you

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
