Confidence Building

A fun and practical course that will work with individual student needs to give them the tools they need to enable them to build their confidence. Each week we will look at different aspects of confidence through a mixture of information, activities and reflections. Support will be given to reach individual personal goals that will be agreed during the first week. Simple practical activities and tools will be given and to gain the most from this course, it is expected that students will practice them during the week. Participation in activities during the sessions will be voluntary.

Course aim

For participants to gain confidence through understanding more about things that influence our emotions and behaviour and applying this knowledge to their own situations.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Define what is / what is not confidence
  • Name 3 tools to build confidence
  • Name at least 5 values that are important to you
  • Recognise my progress in building my confidence in up to 3 areas

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
  • Activities that will be expected to be carried out in your own time are to put into practice the tools and things learnt during the session.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • Although sharing of learning is encouraged, there will be no pressure to contribute.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • By building your confidence it is hoped that you will be better able to access job opportunities or other courses.

Enrolment Conditions

As a registered charity, and to meet our funders’ requirements, we need to check a few things with you before you book. Please could we ask that you check the list below to ensure you meet our basic criteria:

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2018
  • You have read and accept our standard terms and conditions
