How to support children’s transition to primary school giving tips on confidence building and importance of play
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Explain, giving appropriate examples why play is so important for a child’s development and successful transition to school.
- Describe three ways of improving their child’s confidence and resilience.
- Describe three ways of improving their child’s ability to form and sustain relationships.
- Explain the importance of children being given the chance to ask/answer questions and make/ justify choices.
- Identify three positive steps to take to support their own child’s transition to nursery or school.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- Activities may include tutor presentation, small group work, working in pairs, class discussions, short tasks and research
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
What else do I need to know?
- Nothing else is needed
- All materials will be provided

- No pre reading or pre course work is required
What can I do next?
- Progress to a course with another provider
- Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
