This course is run by the WEA, working in partnership with East Surrey College delivering Adult Learning across the East Surrey area.

Course aim

The programme will provide a basic understanding of Baby and Child First Aid including how to approach a casualty safely. How to deal with the most common injuries incurred such as choking. Learning how to perform CPR

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain why it is important to be mindful of safety when approaching a casualty
  • Describe the causes of choking and explain how to deal with a choking casualty
  • Explain how to treat a minor wound with consideration of minimising risk of infection
  • How to treat a nose bleed
  • How to Perform CPR

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • An app will be provided so that you can expand your knowledge
