This session is aimed at parents wishing to find out new ways of playing with their children and sets out to reinforce the benefits of play for children’s all-round growth. Discussion will include the importance of play for learning, socialising and physical development. Tasks will help identify different kinds of play and how adults can take an active role. Activities will include practical ideas for creating safe and stimulating play with opportunities for sharing personal, favourite games / ideas for playing, with the rest of the group.

Discuss/Discover the benefits of play for children’s all-round growth including intellectual, physical, social and emotional development.

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe why play is important to children’s learning and development.
  • Comment briefly on the role of play within the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

  • Nothing else is needed
