Paint in friendly surroundings.Learn new techniques in watercolour and get to grips with colour theory and colour mixing.Traditional approach suitable for beginners or anyone really who enjoys painting.

Course aim

This is a class for all who wish to explore watercolour and other drawing media such as watercolour pencils and pastels. There will be a focus on colour this term

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Just bring your enthusiasm- all welcome.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • A sound understanding of colour mixing.
  • Use of Hot and cold colours.
  • Composition using abstract shapes- getting more impact in your pictures through bolder choices
  • Better drawing.
  • Expression of mood and atmosphere in your work.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • There may be some involvement in planning an exhibition in the community.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need watercolour paper- A3 size. Round brushes- size 6 and 8. basic set of good quality watercolours or gouache- eg. Cotman watercolours or Windsor and Newton.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • It is always good to do research and look at the work of other artists

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Exhibit your work in a local art society- or WEA exhibition.
