Cinema is a unique and universal medium which has shaped the world's collective imagination. In this lively and friendly course, we'll meet at the innovative New Park Cinema to watch, discuss, analyse, appreciate and ultimately celebrate all aspects of films and film-making. Everyone welcome.

Course aim

DreamWorks aims to deepen our knowledge and appreciation of this universal medium called cinema. We'll accomplish this by watching, discussing and analysing all aspects of films and film-making.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify and assess the main cinematic features of content, style and genre.
  • Employ the language of films and film-making in discussions.
  • Evaluate the films studied critically.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No requirements, just watch as many films as possible – at the cinema, on TV, on DVD, with friends, etc. For information and reviews you might like to look at these websites: www.imdb.com / www.afi.com / www.bfi.org.uk
