Learn to draw through demonstrations and simple exercises: this course gives an opportunity to try a variety of materials including charcoal,pen and ink,pastel and mixed media (combining materials ) . Suitable for complete beginners or those wanting to improve their skills.

Course aim

To give a broad foundation in the basic skills needed for drawing.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Choose from two materials the most appropriate to copy a texture.
  • Use proportion to measure an object and place it within a drawing.
  • Reproduce light and dark tones.
  • Use a colour wheel as a reference to mix a given colour from two or more other colours.
  • More advanced students may suggest their own outcomes.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • There is a charge of £4.00 per term for paper - all other basic materials and equipment will be provided. Please wear an apron or old clothes.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
