Art Workshops 2: Painting Using Impressionist Techniques

Ref: C3742896

In this course we will be looking at the various impressionist techniques, and ideas learning and experimenting ways to incorporate them into your own art work. Impressionism developed in France in the nineteenth century and is based on the practice of painting out of doors and spontaneously ‘on the spot’ rather than in a studio from sketches. This resulted in a greater awareness of light and colour and the shifting pattern of the natural scene. Brushwork became rapid and broken into separate dabs in order to render the fleeting quality of light, main impressionist subjects were landscapes and scenes of everyday life. We will be covering the use of paint, soft pastels and also watercolours.

We will be exploring The Impressionist Movement's unique and distinctive painting techniques. Painting a general impression of a scene and paying attention to the light.
