Looking at Landscape (OUDCE)

Ref: C3742872

The history of landscape in paintings, photographs and prints from the ancient world to now. When did the representation of the land, the study of a view, become an element in western art? Why are they so popular and yet regarded as relatively unimportant in the hierarchies of art history? We will explore painters from the Roman world, medieval manuscripts, painters of peasants, seascapes and views with a particular emphasis on the changing role of nature in art.
