Day School: Art of Photography

Ref: C3742767

This short course will trace the development of photography and its uses from its invention in the mid nineteenth century to the present day. We will concentrate on the links between photography and painting, and explore the way in which artists have modified their use of the medium to investigate different subject matter. The work of major photographers will be included in the day, such as Nadar and Julia Margaret Cameron, to Cartier Bresson, Stieglitz and Steichen, Capa, Adams, Karsh, Bailey and Liebowitz. The course will briefly discuss the technical aspects of making photographs but will be focused on the images themselves.
