Day School: European Court Painters

Ref: C3742718

A day school which discusses painters from the Renaissance to the Baroque, who were employed by princely and papal courts to add lustre to them. Respectability was gained by having your court full of respected musicians, thinkers, writers and, of course, painters. Both the artist and the monarch gained renown from this alliance. Artists like Jan van Eyck, Holbein, da Vinci, Raphael and of course Michelangelo all worked for those who could afford them, and could add to their own fame. We shall start at the beginning of courtly manners and elegance in the Late Middle Ages and move through to the quintessential Court painting - Las Meninas - by the end of the day.
