Day School: The Glories of the Art of Fra Angelico

Ref: C3742681

Fra Angelico is an important artist of the mid 15C when the advances in art were at their height. However, he not only painted supremely beautiful works which are worth studying in their own right, but he was part of the cultural scene in Florence when the city was at its artistic zenith, a contemporary of all the great 15C names, Masaccio, Donatello, and Ghiberti, to name but a few. This exciting course will begin with recent research into his early career as an illuminator, and then examine his major works both in Fiesole and Florence, and further afield, such as the pope's private Chapel in the Vatican, in order to attempt an assessment of his importance as an artist at this key period in Renaissance art.
