This course will help you to develop your confidence and study skills to enable you to read and analyse text, develop researching and assignment writing skills and using ICT to support your learning. You will practice speaking and listening communication skills to express your views and opinions.

Course aim

To develop study skills To develop communication skills in reading, speaking and listening, researching and writing To develop and use ICT skills All in preparation for study at academic level

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for a specific group of students from the Teaching Hospitals and their partners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce a timetable/ study plan and reflect on learning after each session.
  • Read, analyse and write about a text
  • Research and produce an essay/assignment
  • Use a computer and internet learning platforms to support learning
  • Produce an Action Plan for Personal Development

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring a folder, writing paper, pen, pencil, pencil sharpener and ruler

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
