Learners will acquire new photographic skills, be encouraged to develop a mindful attitude to everyday life and increase their involvement and confidence within the community. The tutor embeds Maths, English and ICT skills which could increase student employability. The course looks at photography from around the world and celebrates equality and diversity. This is a taster session which will introduce stufdents to the following content of the summer term Photography for Wellbeing course: Week 1: Introduction to Photography and the Course Week 2: Develop a critical eye in Photography Week 3: Explore Photographic Composition and why it is useful Week 4: Look at how we can manipulate the settings in our photography Week 5: Explore Shutter Speeds Week 6: Produce a final image

Course aim

To increase student confidence whilst learning a new skill in a small focused group. To build confidence in the community and develop mindful techniques transferable into everyday life.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe how photography can help develop a more mindful approach to everyday life
  • Start to develop a critical eye in photography
  • Produce an image

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • You will save your images to your digital camera/phone and be able to monitor your progress with tutor feedback

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Mobile phone with camera facility or digital camera. Dress for inclement weather and sensible footwear
