Italian Taster

Ref: C3675444

If you have ever wanted to learn Italian but were afraid to take the plunge, why not come and join us on this 6-week taster. I will teach you some useful phrases for your holiday, introduce you to language in various situations, and also tell you what you will learn if you decide to join us for the full course starting in the Autumn. This is a beginner-level taster, but if you already have some Italian and would like to explore your level or refresh your knowledge, you are welcome to join us. We also have courses at higher levels re-starting in the Autumn which might interest you.

Course aim

To provide a brief introduction to the Italian language and to the first year course due to start in the Autumn.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • know how to order drinks, know the words for items of food, say please and thank you
  • know how to book a room, ask for directions and get around
  • understand a few basic grammar points
  • know and recognise numbers, know the alphabet and be able to spell my name

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • All materials will be provided, but if you already have a copy of BBC Talk Italian book 1 and/or Usborne's Italian for Beginners, please feel free to bring them along with you.
