Come along, relax and enjoy learning about painting and drawing. Take inspiration from local landmarks and landscape. (This could be from a photograph that you have taken.) Explore and experiment with a wide range of painting and drawing media and effective techniques. Develop your individual style and approach to painting and drawing. Depending on the size of painting or drawing that you decide to undertake you may be able to complete more than one piece of artwork and create a series of studies during the five sessions. You will be able to learn about: Observation, Measurement, Perspective, Line, Tone & Texture. Characteristics of your chosen medium, Colour mixing, Brush techniques, Mark Making Techniques. Cost effectiveness is always a consideration when starting painting and drawing and you will be surprised by what you can achieve with a minimum of materials. No previous experience is needed, just the will to have a go and see what you can achieve!

Course aim

A short five week course aimed at adults who would like to enjoy learning how to paint or draw local landmarks and landscapes in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Source and select inspirational local landscape/landmark image
  • Plan and select appropriate media, equipment and painting drawing surface
  • Develop observation skills and creative approaches. Plan and create a measured drawing/outline of image
  • Explore and experiment with a selection of techniques
  • Create a minimum of one piece of original creative artwork depicting local landscape/landmarks

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • If you wish to continue artwork at home, the tutor will guide you on how to progress.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A limited range of materials, basic equipment, landscape/ landmark photos will be available to support students . Please bring along your own art materials, landscape/landmark photos to each session, Further advice regarding materials will be provided at the start if the course.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
