Historic Landscapes Survey 1 Introductory Day

Ref: C3675357

This introductory day will look at how to go about recording ‘lumps and bumps’ that represent ancient fields and settlements. Students will look at existing sources of information and gain first-hand experience in the initial phases of a survey project, including setting up equipment and conducting a walk-over reconnaissance survey. A morning session in Kilnsey Village Hall will be followed by an initial examination of a nearby area of extensive earthworks which has never been recorded or investigated in detail, and which forms part of a wider community project that is being run by the Upper Wharfedale Heritage Group. While attendance at the other survey days will be helpful, it is not an essential requirement.
