Students will be briefly introduced to the history of felt making in the Yorkshire area,and will be encouraged to share any such related memories. Felt making techniques will be used, and its use within papercrafting will be explored. Students will have fun creating their own bespoke items that can be used within their Memory Books.

Course aim

To provide a brief introduction to the history of felt making within Yorkshire, and to discuss and share related memories. Felt making and papercraft techniques will be explored to create embellishments that can be used in Memory Books.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate respect and tolerance through discussing and agreeing group ground rules.
  • Recognise and discuss the impact of Felt making in our local History
  • Create a piece of felt using Marino wool and use it in your Memory Book

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
