Learn a new skill. Learn the basics of the Spanish language to introduce yourself and family, talk about the place where you live and understtand basic information about other places and to ask where places are places and understand how to get there. Develop your confidence practising your new skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere

Course aim

To introduce students to the Spanish language: basic phrases and clear pronunciation to use when greeting and meeting people , introducing themselves and others, talking about a town and when asking where public buildings are and how to get there.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Say hello and goodbye and use some polite expressions when meeting people, asking for repetition, saying thank you, etc
  • Understand and use basic expressions to introducing yourself and other people and answer questions for personal information
  • Talk about the place where you live/ work and understand basic information about other places
  • Understand and use the names for public places, ask what there is in a town and when those places open/close
  • Ask how to ask where public buildings are understand where the directions to get there, and when they open.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A notebook and a pen/pencil to take notes. A file to keep hand-outs and your work can help too.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • You can visit the BBC languages Talk Spanish web site. your tutor will give you additional information when the course starts.

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2018
  • You have read and accept our standard terms and conditions
