The course will help you to tune into your body's needs. You will be encouraged to relax your body and mind and learn how to practise yoga in a gentle and nurturing way. We will be practising some classic yoga postures, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques and relating these practices to our everyday lives.

Course aim

To increase flexibility, provide peace of mind and ability to relax through the practice of regular yoga, relaxation and meditation.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Students will be able to warm up their bodies in preparation for yoga.
  • Students will be able to apply the Sivananda sequence to their individual needs.
  • Students will be able to practise the deep yogic breath.
  • Develop the skills to meditate for five minutes.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Please bring a bottle of water and a blanket and yoga mat if you have one.
