Ref: C3675223

This is a continuation beginners’ course designed to help you develop some basic speaking and listening skills in Greek and gain an insight into the Greek lifestyle and culture. In a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, you will be introduced to some basic everyday language and you will have plenty of opportunity to practise key words and phrases in a fun and enjoyable way through a variety of activities. You will also learn about some Greek customs and traditions. Topics include asking and talking about likes and dislikes relating to food and drink, asking about the opening hours of shops and facilities, making enquiries about public transport and buying tickets . Handouts will be given out to help you revise at home what you learn in class.

Course aim

To provide you with some more basic everyday language you need for a visit to Greece / Cyprus and to give you an insight into the Greek lifestyle and culture.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • Ideally you need to have attended at least one of the two previous beginners' courses offered this year or something equivalent in the past. If you are a complete beginner please ring WEA on 0300 303 3464 for an evaluation by the tutor and to discuss your options.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Ask about and understand opening hours.
  • Ask about and express likes and dislikes with respect to food and drink.
  • Make enquiries about travelling by public transport and buy tickets.

How will I be taught?

  • The tutor will help you learn through the use of a variety of pictures, games and other fun activities and role plays. Between sessions you will be expected, if possible, to spend around an hour revising your notes and doing simple exercises to consolidate your learning.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will regularly receive informal feedback at various points during the course to help you progress.

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring with you a pen or pencil, a notepad, your Talk Greek book, and a folder or ring binder to keep your work in.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • None is required.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA Greek course that will revise and extend some of the knowledge you acquire on this course.
