This course will consider the vast output of work by French Impressionist artist Monet, how his work changed, & his background within the context of Impressionism. It will include different aspects of Monet’s work: his early paintings, pastels & pencil sketches, series works, travels abroad, Giverny garden. Fully illustrated with discussion.

- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the background of Monet’s life & career
- Contribute to constructive discussion about the material studied
- Analyse & discuss a wide range of examples of Monet’s works
- Explain the significance of Monet’s contribution to Impressionism & the beginnings of modern art
- Describe the ways in which Monet’s style changed & how this characterises his career
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
