This session will explore the life & work of Vincent Van Gogh, his exploration and development of colour, looking at the way his work changed during his short career. Van Gogh’s work moved from the monochromatic to exploding into a vibrant colour spectrum. Fully illustrated with discussion.

Course aim

This session will explore the life & work of Vincent Van Gogh, his exploration and development of colour, looking at the way his work changed during his short career.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Contribute to constructive discussion about the artist & paintings
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the background of the artist
  • Discuss & analyse a wide range of paintings
  • Describe the extent of Van Gogh’s exploration of colour & explain how it changed his work
  • Explain the significance of different places & situations to Van Gogh’s work

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A note book & pen may be of use for taking notes
