This course is an introduction to mindfulness & meditation Over the six week programme you will try out a variety of meditation practices including seated meditations, lying meditations, light mindful movement, body scans and vibrational meditation using Tibetan singing bowls. Mindfulness is known to reduce stress and anxiety and help us to build our resilience. With practice it improves our relationship with ourselves and with others. You will learn how to turn off your “doing mind” and turn on your “being mind” you will discover where this ancient practice came from and how we can use it in our modern busy lives to find peace and happiness. Our sessions are relaxed and informal, with plenty of time for discussion and reflections.
Course aim
To learn the principles of the ancient practice of mindfulness and meditation and learn how we can apply these principles to our busy modern day lives to bring about many benefits including inner peace and happiness
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Articulate the benefits of mindfulness mediation
- Practice mindfulness
- Understand the seven attitudes I need to adopt to meditate successfully
- Practice Mindful movement
- Identify what mindfulness is and what it is not.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
