Building Confidence and Resilience

You will learn what Confidence and resilience are and we will look at what builds resilience and what decreases it. We will look at the physiology of resilience and learn why some people react to the same stressors differently. In week four we will learn about the psychology of resilience. You will learn the difference between being confident and not confident. You will consider what can be done to build confidence. You will learn the Neuroscience of confidence and finally we will look at self care.

Course aim

To learn what is confidence and resilience are and how you can be more confident and resilient

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe what confidence is in my own words.
  • Describe what resilience is in my own words.
  • I will have learned how to be more confident.
  • Feel more able to cope when things go wrong.
  • describe the ways in which I look after myself.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A pen and something to write on would be good but spares will be available.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
