This session will be an exploration of the extensive use of gold in Renaissance Art and later in the work of Gustav Klimt. Fully illustrated with discussion.

Course aim

This session will aim to explore the extensive use of gold in Renaissance Art and later in the work of Klimt.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Contribute to constructive discussion about the themes and paintings studied.
  • Discuss and analyse a wide range of examples of paintings which explore the theme.
  • Understand the background context to the production of the works.
  • Realise the range of techniques artists have used to incorporate gold in their work.
  • Consider the importance of gold in Art during the Renaissance.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A notebook & pen may be of use to make notes.
