This 6 week fun and informal course is run by a very experienced textiles tutor and will focus on learning how to use, or expand your use of an electric sewing machine. Those attending will be encouraged to bring in their own projects and ideas so that their work will be specific to them.

Course aim

To introduce or further develop individual sewing skills specific to creating craft items, including the use of a sewing machine.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstratge how to operate a sewing machine
  • Thread up a sewing machine
  • Have a greater understanding of how to create different stitches and effects on the sewing machine

How will I be taught?

  • This will be a practical course where you will learn basic and more technical sewing techniques on a class and one-to-one basis

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
