Life Drawing and Painting

Ref: C3674904

Drawing from the human figure is the basis of all art and design. Students are welcome from all levels of experience and will be helped to develop from a point that suits them. All students will be encouraged to go beyond the usual hand eye practice and make drawings and paintings that demonstrate structure and mass, as well as individual expression. The course will cover the importance of detail and how to connect it to the overall feeling of the pose, development of observational skills, use of materials, colour, design and composition. There will be plenty of time to discuss each student's work and share the experience with the other members of the group.

Course aim

To develop your drawing and painting ability through working from the human figure.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be encouraged to undertake a short, simple project relating to the course, in the period between the two course dates.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring your own drawing and painting materials but A1 size white cartridge paper is provided. You need to bring an A1 or A2 size drawing board and an easel. There are one or two easels available if you need one, but contact the tutor prior to the start of the course, to reserve one.
