This course is recommended for learners who have knowledge of a computer and basic understanding of cameras. The course is designed around the basic introduction of Photoshop and /or Elements. The information provided will introduce you to how the main tools work and how to use them for basic image manipulation. All sessions are designed to be fun with encouragement to ask questions. The course is image led working on typical images with issues and is tutor led with instructions.

Course aim

The course will introduce you to enhancing your digital photographs from camera to display. The course looks at how to use Adobe Photoshop or Elements using tools and enhancement techniques to suit a beginner or part knowledgeable user.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • For beginners into digital industries, photographers and enthusiasts. You will require to bring along your own lap top with its own software.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Develop computer skills, transferring images from camera to computer
  • Understand file formats such as jpeg, png, psd and more. Know which to use for print or web.
  • You will be able to colour enhance images and improve the look
  • Understand the basic tools of Photoshop or Elements
  • Be able to save, size and crop enhanced images for screen or print

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • Imagery is supplied for educational purposes only with in the class sessions, you will be encouraged to ask questions and work on images.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • You are encouraged to use the provided, helpful notes and images to make a small portfolio for yourself to show developments and notes for research after.

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • You may share a limited supply of laptops but it is beneficial if you have your own with the required software to use.
