An informal flower arranging course for all levels of experience taught by a local florist. Course aim

To achieve a knowledge and understanding of flowers and flower arranging by creating a selection of seasonal. tutor demonstrated designs using your own materials.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create the designs demonstrated by the tutor
  • Identify seasonal flowers and foliages used in each design
  • How to use floristry tools in the correct manner
  • How to condition different flowers and foliages for maximum vase life
  • Create a themed arrangement using your own creativity

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to bring scissors, flowers, foliages, sundries and any other tools needed for each design, book to take notes and a box to keep everything together is handy. However there will always be scissors etc to borrow from the tutor.

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
