Drama for the Terrified

This is a course for people who want to discover their acting talents. Through exercises, games, improvisation and text work students will be able to explore aspects of theatrical acting which will also help to build confidence and a sense of well-being. It will alo help students who may be called upon in their jobs or private life to carry out public speaking roles.

Course aim

An introduction to acting for beginners. The course will also help to foster a sense of self-confidence and a chance for students to express themselves in a variety of different ways.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform physical exercises required as warm-up procedure
  • Develop voice projection
  • Identify trust in both yourself and others by performing trust exercises
  • Demonstrate improvisational skills developed through exercises
  • Translate a piece of written text in a dramatic performance

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
